thanks geoff, with your encouragement and advice i went ahead and placed the main script with some modifications into the data file which is launched by a local script as you suggested and it is working like a charm! i still have a little tinkering to do to get it to work as a more universal script in different portals on different layouts (based on different tables... i pass parameters both to the local script and the data file based script) but i am 3/4 of the way there already! you guys have my everlasting admiration for an ingenious technique!!

Thanks for your comment, John. That's not at all a stupid question. Yes, you can take that approach. In fact, it's actually a superior approach, because it's easier to implement and doesn't require extra fields.

For best results, use local scripts that call the remote scripts, then follow up with a [Commit Records] step.

this may be a stupid question but... can't you just run the script from within the data file? wouldn't that enable it to see the global variables generated in the auto-enter calc? i am encountering this issue myself right now as i have just converted an existing solution to tsm and realized it broke my previously functioning drag and drop implementations. will try what i am proposing and report back... but maybe you already know whether or not it will work???

Nicely done. I've had it in my head to write an article along these lines for a while now for the Servoy space. Now I'll just refer people here. Glad I ran across this.

Good article, Christo. I think that our clients get the best value when we bill hourly, as they only pay for the actual work that we do. There is no way that I can anticipate every need that my customer requires for a project, but with a fixed price I must do that. Thus, I have to build that into the fixed price.

Besides, I have always felt that a development project is a collaborative effort between developer and customer. It is designed over time.
