The Development Process:
Define, Design, Develop, Deploy.
1. Identify the problem(s) or situation that requires a solution.
2. Decide on a solution that best meets your needs and plan how it will be executed.
3. Create a solution, issuing progressive ‘builds’ for you to evaluate and test; revise the design as changes occur.
4. Bring the finished solution online, begin user acceptance testing and repeat the 4 ‘D’ process until completion.
Excelisys’ development process is a collaboration between our professional team and yours. We will work side by side, either virtually or physically, to hone each project into a finely tuned solution to fulfill your unique business demands. Whether we are brought in as strictly a consultative
basis to evaluate your current set–up and offer definitive solutions for your own team to implement, or if we oversee the entire project,
from concept to completion, our approach follows critically defined steps, using “Spiral Development” as one of our primary methodologies.
Spiral Development is an evolutionary fluid process of ongoing input, assessment, and response. We may start with a specifically defined goal, but through this process our fresh perspective on your practices may lead us to even better productive solutions. We are able to share knowledge gleaned from hands–on experiences and can offer a different approach you may not have considered. Oftentimes we help clients break the old “we’ve–always–done–it–this–way” habits and replace them with new, efficient practices. It’s this continuous give and take of user feedback and testing that moves us steadily forward to produce the very best possible solution for your business.
Before we start any code crunching, each project begins with a design specification assessment. This initial assessment process allows us to analyze your existing information system(s), current business processes and methodologies, and what you feel your short– and long–term objectives are in seeking a custom application. This assessment phase allows us to develop a written plan of proposed solutions or enhancements that address your company’s unique data requirements, resulting in a scope document of the proposed project. Our scope document may include, for example, table/field definitions and relationships, workflows of each user type/group, reports, and form/interface layouts. It concludes with a schedule of how each phase will roll out, along with what we believe to be a realistic estimate of the development and consulting hours required. The greater our knowledge of all aspects of the project, as revealed through our assessment phase, the more accurate and comprehensive the estimate will be.
